Exterior Painting

Need a new look? Change is a good thing. Imagine what having a different color on your house would look like. It might make you stop and think about what you have. Appreciate what you've worked for. As mentioned on the home page there are a few rules to making that choice. The color of the non-paintable surfaces dictate the options for what colors you can use. Paint colors clashing with brick or stone will not be a good look for your house. Pick a paint that is more muted. I enjoy bright vibrant colors as much as anyone else, but you need to focus on the whole picture. Lastly, the color you pick in the store won't look the same in the sunlight. Pick out a few options to test in the sunlight. Most people pick paint that is too bright and warmer than you anticipate. Options are great and going over those options with experienced professionals is even better.

As much as we like to stand out and be unique, we also desire to be a part of a community. It is okay to look for inspiration from your neighbors. A quick drive through the neighborhood will tell you a lot about which exterior paints you like and which you don't. We offer high quality paint that help you feel like you are unique while also belonging to the community around you. The one piece of advice our painting contractors have for you is to not get caught up in the trends. Our paint will last. Let us help you make a tried and true decision. The last tip we have for you is to test your decision. You won't know for sure if you like it until it's on the house and you can look at it.

Now that you've made the decision on what color of paint you want to use, you get to choose what type of paint. Don't worry, there's much less options here. The two most common types of paint are solvent-based (alkyd or oil) and water-based (latex) paints. Solvent-based paints adhere to smooth surfaces and hold up well against the elements. The do take a longer time to dry or cure, but it is usually worth it. Water-based paints are quick-drying and easy clean-up. These paints will expand in the heat and contract in the cold. This will help with longevity.

What about paint finishes? Sheen describes the reflectivity of the paint. Different paint finishes will have varying levels of sheen. The main finishes are gloss, semi-gloss, satin, and flat. Gloss or high-gloss paint finishes are resistant to scuffs and clean easily making them ideal for high-traffic areas. Semi-gloss also has the durability but less of the intense shine you'll get with gloss. Satin is one step lower in terms of sheen but still has the easy-clean characteristic. Flat or matte paint has little to no luster. This will help hide imperfections and also a good choice for areas that will need touch-ups.

For picking the best exterior paint, you'll want to meet several characteristics. Look for paint with hiding power, color retention, and blister resistance. Reno's number one painting contractors can help you sort through the options. We want your project to be a success and painless from start to finish. Give us a call today!
